How to Prevent Your Tech From Swallowing Your Tote

Remember the messy bag we showed you in July? Well, we not only decided to downsize the tech contents in the tote, but we have also taken some serious strides in getting and keeping it organized. In this post we will share two tools that we use to keep the tech clutter at bay and we will also highlight a fantastic looking DIY solution.

After we exposed our messy tote in our post about the amount of tech in bags we realized just how badly we needed to get things organized. We have since gotten the tech clutter under control, and to accomplish this we have used flight amenity kits and the Cocoon GRID-IT iPad wrap.

After spreading out the contents of our tote we realized that the items did break down pretty neatly into categories, like flash drives, cables, and adapters. To help make finding what we needed easier, we decided to use a few airline amenity kits that we have picked up from our travels. These little bags are just the right size for containing peripherals and they make organizing a snap. One of the best things about using them as an organization tool is that they were already in our home and we did not need to a buy a thing.

For a single device to organize multiple tech accessories we opted for the Cocoon GRID-IT wrap. This device has a grid of rubber straps so that arranging various sized accessories is quick and easy. What makes this different from the classic GRID-IT is that it also has space for to protect a tablet. The only trouble that we have with using it on a daily basis is getting into the habit of putting items back on the grid when we are done. We think that this device is great for traveling and we know that it has helped us keep the tech clutter in our tote under control. $30

Love the idea of a grid system but prefer to make your own? Check out this great DIY project by Kate Pruitt on Design*Sponge. We love that she used an old book as the cover and also like how she used the grid for one side and the other for pockets. The finished project is smart and elegant and it makes us wish that our sewing skills were a bit better than they currently are.
