This 300-Year-Old Charleston Plantation Is for Sale for $8.8 Million

Fenwick Hall Plantation just outside of historic Charleston is on the market. The 5, 672 square foot property sits on 52 acres and clocks in at $8,875,00.

The home has a wealth of history. It dates back to 1730, which is decades before the U.S. was officially the U.S. The plantation has been home to some of the most prominent families in Charleston and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Even though the interior of the home has been remodeled since it was built, the exterior still holds much of the beauty of the pre-existing house. The plantation still has its original Georgian brick, woodwork, and fireplaces, and has been adorned with several additions, ancillary structures, and gardens. Of course, it must be noted, that all that beauty is a strange juxtaposition to the ugly histories of many plantations in the south.

Inside the Manor House, which is on the property, there is Georgian Cypress paneling that dates back to the early-to-mid 18th century. Whoever buys this house will have a project on their hands, as the Manor House will need a sensitive historical upgrade. Preparations have already been made and “a well known local restoration expert is available to discuss the renovations plans that have been created by Glenn Keyes, a notable Charleston architect.”
