Divine Design: Unconventional Churches

Whatever our thoughts on religion, one doctrine everyone here at Apartment Therapy can agree on is that we love interesting and unique architecture.  So when I stumbled on this collection of bizarrely beautiful modern churches, it seemed heaven-sent.

Just like churches of any era, these modern structures function as gathering places for their communities.  For example, the Harajuku church in Toyko, Japan (above) is a stylish, contemporary building that mirrors (in the best way possible) its urban setting.

Similarly, the Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs (above), is just as fierce and industrial as you might expect from the military.

I love how, even in an area as steeped in tradition as religion, some congregations are choosing to embrace the unconventional and create uniquely beautiful places of worship.
