Summer Boredom Buster: "Bucket" Sticks

Summer Boredom Buster: "Bucket" Sticks

For some people, summer is defined as a time of no required anything. Leisure is king and to-do lists are off-limits. But when you have kids it pays to have a few things up your sleeve to fight the inevitable chorus of 'I'm bored' and to encourage them to do more than sit inside and play video games. Here is a take on the idea of a bucket list which will keep everyone active and make writing a 'How I Spent My Summer' essay next September a breeze.

It is easy to hunker down in the AC when the temperature gets high and before you know it, back to school sales are popping up and everyone is wondering where the time went. This neat idea from Tried and True is a perfect way to gently remind us to make hay while the sun is shining. An activity is written on each stick, and the sticks are placed in a jar. When you need a little motivation, pull out a stick and get to it. You can also make a display area for each stick after an activity has been completed, which will make tallying up each one a game in itself.

Happy Summer, everyone!
