Cardboard Comes Alive: Kinetic Creatures

We love when a humble materials rise to new heights, which accounts for our fascination with old furniture repurposed into play kitchens and just about anything made from shipping pallets. We have seen some pretty amazing things done with cardboard, but we found these models particularly moving, both figuratively and literally.

Another heart-warming Kickstarter success story! Industrial Designer Lucas Ainsworth and Visual Arts Teacher Alyssa Hamel have been developing Kinetic Creatures for four years, and it looks like all of their hard work has paid off. Their cardboard animal kits, which can be put together at home using only tabs and slots, have been fully funded and hopefully will be available sometime soon because, frankly, we want a few. While beautiful in their own right, the magic really happens when they begin to walk.

While the hand crank option is amazing, the fully geared models will definitely get little makers revved up. Best of luck to you, Lucas and Alyssa!
