A Bohemian Backyard in Brooklyn

Bohemian style isn't for everybody. The word can conjure up images of a certain mishmash messiness that can make the neat and orderly run the other way. But if you're drawn to this eclectic, carefree look yet are still afraid to commit to it inside your house, perhaps blending it into your outdoor space is the perfect solution!

Actress Lake Bell lets us take a peek into her backyard and shows us how easy and effortless bohemian style can be, and, when executed properly, how downright chic.

With help from the Lonny team, Lake transformed the backyard of her recently purchased Brooklyn townhouse into a boho-ness of cool-dom all in one day. Evergreen shrubs and boxwoods were brought in for a lush, shady green backdrop, the perfect juxtaposition to the patchwork rug-draped fence. Big statement pieces like the daybed and wishbone chairs from World Market anchor the space while allowing many of the owner's own offbeat finds to take center stage. These vintage pieces, such as the brightly beaded cow skull and petrified alligator head perched on a rattan bar cart, layer the patio with flea market goodness.

When Bell described what she wanted for her backyard, she said no more prettiness would do — she wanted "weird". If this is weird, then it's definitely right up my alley... or should I say, backyard. To see and learn more about Bell's garden makeover in a day, check out the current issue of Lonny.
